Syllabus

The profession of interpreting for the Deaf has changed over time. The USA has seen the most change and research in the field.

This course will introduce students to the early days of the profession, to the standardization of curriculum in the USA and how these methods are being copied around the world. We will explore the interpreters’ roles, on and off the job.

We will discuss every aspect of interpreting and answer all questions the students may have concerning work in this profession. Students will discuss multicultural-multilingual communication and how it affects the interpreting profession.

Annotation

This course will teach the history of how interpreting for the Deaf has developed and where it may be changing. It will include discussion of the role of the interpreter and interactions with multicultural-multilingual communities.
