Highlights of Czech Theatre: spring term 2023
Schedule: Feb. 16, March 2, 16, 30, Apr. 13, 27, May 11
Place: KATAP DAMU, Karlova 26 (due to covid restrictions students are required to meet with the instructor in front of CAFE Disk at 10:55)
The course focuses on both text and performance analysis. We read Czech plays translated into English (all accessibe online in moodle) and attend theatre productions. As part of the class students are required to watch movies which provide us with an insight into the specific contexts of plays.
Attendance policy: as the class goes in series, only one 3-hour long class can be missed without any further apology. For other absence, contact the instructor.
Assessment: class presentation and final paper (3–5 pages).
Presentations: Presentation should not exceed 15 min. PP could be used.
Class participation: the most important part of the class, everyone should read/watch/attend everything discussed.
Material: texts are accessible on moodle in English,
Performances: will be specified according to our needs and schedules. Performances vary – drama productions
(with subtitles or based on scripts accessible in English), non-verbal theatre, dance or physical theatre.
Tickets: prices vary from 20 CZK to 200 CZK.
Assignments: no extra assignments requires
