Annotation
Between the brass music and the club scene. Chapters from the development of Czech popular music in the 20th century
The seminar will focus on the development of Czech popular music and its connection with the changes in society and the media system during the "long" twentieth century. The focus will be on local adaptations of Western or global genres, as well as power attempts to influence listeners' tastes. The emphasis will be on long duration, regardless of the prevailing regimes. The main genres popular in the Czech environment will be presented, as well as the roles played by the contemporary media in their dissemination. The specific selection of topics studied will be adapted to the interest of the participants.
