Moving pictures and the Balkans - Yugoslav Cinema

Annotation

The first encounter with a moving picture in this Balkan area was not long after the Paris one. The period between the two wars was mostly spent in watching the others do it, especially the French and Americans.

There were a few tries, slowly establishing the solid base for what will become an important part of the European culture. Unfortunately, due to the constant division of West and East, perception of inequality or insufficiency in content or artisana, most of the work never had the opportunity to cross the borders and go further.

Since most of these films are digitalized and available through different platforms, we will add a brief background to the period of their production, screening and life.
