Annotation

The course is dedicated to socially conditioned variability in speech, from the perspective of both the production and perception of speech. The phonetic realization of the sound patterns of a given language changes with a wide range of factors like the speaker’s gender, socioeconomic status or ethnicity, or the communicative context of the situation, reflecting the construction of one’s identity. The seminars will be dedicated to auditory and acoustic analyses of selected speech samples. The course is taught in English.

The course is designed primarily for students of Phonetics. Other students may enroll depending on the capacity.
