The course represents the first part of intended series of "Reading in contemporary sociology" seminars. The whole series is focused in the first place on improving students' ability to discuss sociological issues, to improve students' ability to understand and work effectively with texts written in English, to improve their writing and presentation skills, and to broaden their (sociologically relevant) vocabulary.
The main goal of the first part is to help students to prepare a set of materials and "stock of knowledge at hand" which they could use when (applying for) studying abroad. Due to two lecturers coordinating this course, every student will be treated individually and will have enough space to find her/his strengths and weaknesses.
All four classes will be held in English.
