Correct and accurate understanding of specialized text in a foreign language is conditioned by the adequate level of mastering a certain foreign language (minimally at B2 level), but also by sensitivity towards the principles of the scientific style governing the world of science in a given language and a cultural environment.
Traditions in mother tongues and the habits acquired in the secondary schools can be very different, thus leading to writing inappropriate wording, stylistically inappropriate text types, or misleading interpretations. Logical organization of the text and expected linking of its segments together with author´s presence in the text, positioning and hedging when wording the conclusions, these are all substantially evident in English scientific texts. It is highly desirable to respect and follow these norms in one´s own writing. The lessons taken from this seminar can be used in writing elsewhere since the writing processes are the same and the norms are being quickly unified.
The course aims at students with level of English from B2 upwards. Experience with own research is welcomed.
