Modern Standard Chinese Grammar
An introductory course in Modern Standard Chinese grammar. The aim of this course is to systematize knowledge of Chinese grammar that students encounter during first two years of the conversation course with Chinese language lecturer. The course covers grammar roughly corresponding to the HSK level 2. Students also learn to understand some of the conceptual differences and differences in terminology between the Czech grammar and other grammatical models. Particular attention is paid to those phenomena and structures , which are problematic for Czech native speakers and are not sufficiently emphasized in foreign textbooks. Due to the great quantity and overall complexity of problems dealt in this course, continuous pre-class preparation is crucial for successful grasp of the matter. The class typically consists of short lectures on particular grammatical phenomenon followed by analysis and translation of sentences from O. Švarný's textbook. Homeworks are assigned as a follow-up to every grammatical phenomenon discussed. In spring semester, Chinese grammar course is supplemented by "Chinese Grammar Practice" course, where students are invited to practise their active knowledge of Chinese grammar, typically by translation from Czech to Chinese.
