One Europe for centuries - Linguistic view

Annotation

At the threshold of the 21st century, each of the European languages faces the question of its all-European context. European languages, unlike their quite often negligent speakers, have been for centuries proving a great deal of mutual solidarity and mutual understanding - the European politicians and socio-futurologists can only dream about - thus generating gradually the Linguistic Euro-Union or European Linguo-Area (ELA).

The purpose of this workshop is to demonstrate that the Slavic (and Czech) context, often neglected by western scholars, offers actually an ideal framework to introduce the ELA not only as a store of common lexical borrowings but rather as a system affecting all its levels. Asthe ELA can be seen only as a complex linguistic environment, due attention will be paid to the fundamentals of linguistic ecology (linguo-ecology), including such basic notions as linguo-ethics and lingo-aesthetics. Some historical data on the development of the discipline and its domestic tradition (incl. postulates of the Prague School) will be looked at.
