Pathophysiology studies the causes and the mechanisms of disease development and progression (etiopathogenesis) on experimental models as well as under clinical setting. The goal of the pathophysiology education is to emphasize the mechanisms of disease development and course, so it can be used for the explanation of disease symptomatology, diagnosis, and efficient therapy.
Pathophysiology is a basic preclinical specialty. In stomatology studies, pathophysiology focuses on pathogenetic mechanisms of dental diseases and on appropriate information about pathophysiology of other organ systems which can be influenced by therapeutic procedures used in stomatology.
