There will be topics on differential diagnostics of fever in tropics, clinical presentation, diagnostics and management of important viral (arboviral infections as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, measles, viral hemorhagic fevers), bacterial (rickettsial infections. enteric fever, relapsing fever, melioidosis, brucellosis) and febrile parasitic infections (malaria, visceral leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis) during the winter semester.
There will be topics on tropical gastrointestinal infections, traveler´s diarrhea and travel medicine, differential diagnostics of tropical liver and skin lesions including cutaneous leishmaniasis, differential diagnostics of eosinophilia in tropics (schistosomiasis, filariasis etc.) during the summer semester.
PRACTICAL SKILLS: Sampling and management of clinical material for laboratory investigations, recommended and compulsory travel vaccinations, antimalarial chemoprophylaxis, principles of therapy of tropical infections.
The courses will be ended with credit tests at the end of each semester.
The course will be held on FRIDAYS from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Studnickova 7, Prague 2.
Epidemiology, clinical and laboratory diagnostics and therapy of the tropical infections. Differential diagnostics of the tropical febrile, gastrointestinal, hepatic and skin diseases. Tropical helminthic infections and tropical eosinophilia. Emerging infections in tropics. Travel medicine.
The course is in both, in winter and summer semester, and is composed of the problem-based learning tutorials and seminars.
