Syllabus

1. Ophthalmology - history and relation to other fields of medicine.

2. Anatomy and physiology of the eye.

3. Clinical examination of the eye and assessment of eye´s function.

4. Special clinical examination methods. Refractive errors.

5. Spectacles, contact lenses, refractive surgery.

6. Diseases of the lids, orbit and anterior segment of the eye.

7. Disorders of the vitreous and retina, pars plana vitrectomy.

8. Pediatric disorders, squint and amblyopia.

9. Neuroophthalmology.

10. Disorders of the lens and modern cataract surgery.

11. Glaucoma - conservative and surgical treatment.

12. Ocular traumatology and first aid.

Annotation

Lectures take place in the seminar room at the Eye Clinic of the Lochotín University Hospital (entrance E, 4th floor), unless the teacher decides otherwise.

In case of restriction of free movement of the population by national authorities or to close schools, teaching will take place in the form of online lectures and presentations located on the e-learning portal of the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University - Moodle.

Teaching content:

Ophthalmology - history, relationship to other fields of medicine. Anatomy and physiology of the eye. Clinical examination of the eye and its function. Special examination methods in ophthalmology. Eye refraction disorders. Glasses, contact lenses, refraction surgery. Diseases of the eyelids, orbit and anterior segment of the eye. Diseases of the vitreous and retina, pars plana vitrectomy. Pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and amblyopia. Neuroophthalmology. Lens diseases and modern methods of cataract surgery (transfer of operations from the operating room). Glaucoma - conservative and surgical treatment. Eye traumatology and first aid. Systemic diseases and the eye.
