Syllabus

Subject matter of economic policy, objectives, hirearchy of objectives, instruments and subjects of economic policy

Typy koordinace ekonomiky. Typy jednotlivých hospodářských politik. Teoretická východiska HP a základní historický exkurz (koncepce protekcionistické, liberální, ordoliberalismus). Types of economic coordination. Types of economic policy. Theoretical sources of economic policy and basic historical excursion (protectionism, liberalism, ordoliberalism).

Monetary policy. Objectives, instruments. Institutional background.

Status of central banks in history and nowadays. Time-inconsistency theory. Monetary policy instruments and their practical use. Monetary base. Inflation targeting.

Maastricht criteria and process of joining the eurozone and ERM II. The Czech National Bank and the European Central Bank.

Fiscal policy. Keynesian theory and the role of government in economy from the other perspective. Institutional background.

Fiscal policy tools and their use in the Czech Republic. Public budgets and extra-budgetary funds. Government budget revenues and expenditures, function and possibilites of use. Use of fiscal policy instruments for stabilization policy, economy crisis and methods of solution.

Use of fiscal policy instruments for growth policy and types of economy growth.

External economic policy. Objectives. Instruments. Analysis of payment balance items. International economic integration and the role of international organisations.      10. Economic globalization. Economic competition and competitivness of economic groups.

This optional subject provides basic information about economic policy as an intentional policy of government and public institutions aimed to influence an economic reality. It emphasises elementary classification of different types of economic policy - monetary, fiscal and foreign economic policy - in the context of current economic development in the Czech Republic.
