Course Objectives and Description:
The aim of this course is to arm you with the theoretical, conceptual and methodological tools necessary to successfully terminate your MA Thesis. Although methodological and theoretical readings and case studies from the fields of American Studies, International Relations, History and Political Science will be brought in, this class will mainly teach you how to think about the research process and how to write a longer research paper. My aim as an instructor is also to enhance your critical thinking and to provide a class-room climate conducive to constructive and respectful peer exchange.
The writing process is both exciting and difficult. This is normal and something to be expected. However, you can choose to deal with your thesis writing in a timely and systematic fashion so that when you experience hurdles, you can deal with them without panic. It is easier said than done, but in order to move forward and succeed with your thesis writing you must prioritize the thesis. I and my fellow faculty members can urge you to focus on your thesis but it is ultimately up to you to assume responsibility over the research and the writing process so that you give yourself enough time to succeed. A successful thesis is not written the week or even the month before it is due. It is the result of a continuous effort. In order to facilitate the writing process multiple deadlines have been incorporated into the syllabus.
