1. History until 1989 - Overview lecture on the history of Central European region incl. its relation to Germany and Russia Workshop 1 - Central Europe and the Sowjet Union (inc. Prague Spring 1968, and ?Velvet Revolution 1989") Workshop 2 - Focus on Germany (Berlin Wall, RAF and left-terrorism of 1970s, Willy Brandt and Ostpolitik)

2. History since 1989- Overview lecture on the history of Central Europe since the fall od the Iron Curtain Workshop 1 - Central Europe and the post-soviet countries Workshop 2 - reunited Germany and the new democracies

3. Political systems of Central European Countries - Overview lecture on the political systems in the Central European region Workshop 1 - Focus on Central Europe and the new post-soviet states in Europe Workshop 2 - Focus on Germany and Austria

Central European economy and economic development of the region - Overview lecture on on the development of Central European States`economies 1945 - 1990s, incl. different transformation processes Workshop - YES or NO to Euro followed by a panel discussion with businesspeople on current economic issues

9. Global challanges in the time of economic cisis - Overview lecture on the current economic development of the Central European region followed by discussion with business leaders and economic experts from government and private sector

Annotation

The objective of the courses delivered during the summer school "Central Europe between Germany and Russia" is to provide students a broad understanding on the historical, political, economic, social and cultural development of Central

Europe. Moreover, this two week intensive academic program analyses Central Europe`s role as an international political and economic player and the relations to its biggest neighbours - Germany and Russia.
