Description:

The course aims to introduce students to relationship between changes in biophysical environment induced by climate change and exploitation of natural resources on the one hand with the power relations among human societies on the other. Students will examine the role of energy in geopolitical relations in the world. Main focus will be on European Union and its position in both regional and global trends related to energy.

The course addresses the climate change as a geopolitical factor that will shape global power relations. It aims to illustrate the nature of climate change as an multiplier of existing vulnerabilities, conflicts and risks. Students will observe the implications of international efforts, both in terms of mitigation and adaptation to climate change, on global geopolitics and geoeconomics, including the implications of energy or green transition to power relations in the world.
