This course will be taught by Dr. Markus Johansson, Department of political science, Centre for European Research (CERGU), University of Gothenburg (Jan Karlas is responsible for the course only in administrative terms).

Aim

The course aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of European Union policy-making processes and the role and influence of the core institutions in these. It introduces the political system of the EU and build on current research to develop an understanding of its functioning that goes beyond the formal side of the institutional construct. It discusses core European integration theories to provide different perspectives on how the political system has evolved and in particular how it is functioning today. The students will also have the opportunity to develop own independent analyses of the institutions and policy-making processes of the EU.
