"Between classicism and romanticism": a cultural and literary history between 1750-1820

Syllabus

The basis of the proseminar is a detailed analysis of selected texts of older Bohemical literature.

Annotation

The review lectures try to introduce the basic trends and features of the period approximately between the years 1740 and 1820. Our goal is to analyze this stage of Czech history not only as a time of revolutionary changes in social, economic and political, but also as an epoch of transformation of religion, art, culture and literature.

Attention will be paid to the Czech lands. Enlightenment and revivalist literature and culture will be presented in a certain contrast to contemporary in many aspects conservative literature and culture of the popular classes.
