The aim of the course is to provide students with Russia's history from a political, cultural and religious perspective. The student will learn basic information about the rise and problems of the Russian Empire, the onset and decomposition of the Communist dictatorship as well as issues in the formation of contemporary Russia. Though its history of the 20th century, the significance of Christian martyrdom in the totalitarian Soviet Union and the spiritual reference to Russian emigration will be underscored.
Students will also become acquanted with the most important personalities of political, cultural and religious life during specific epochs of Russian history. The spiritual interpretation of works of Russian culture and art until the present will be examined.
