The aim of the course is to introduce the branch of general linguistics to the students, inform them about the history of this discipline, about the contribution of Czech linguists to the world linguistics and German studies, provide them with essential general linguistic terminology. Furthermore, the course is dealing with a subject matter of general linguistics, with defining the term language, the origin and development of the graphic form of language, comparative linguistics and theories developed by F. de Saussure and the Prague linguistic school.
Attention is also paid to new linguistic disciplines.
