The aim of the course is to acquaint students with selected works of German written literature from the period of Naturalism to Expressionism. Emphasis is placed on literary-aesthetic and cultural-historical aspects of the discussed works.
Lecture Contents: Naturalism as the first modern literary movement - program and art theory, artistic associations and magazines; prose (Holz, Schlaf), naturalistic drama (Hauptmann). Artistic movements at the turn of the century: Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Neo-romanticism, Symbolism, "Heimatkunst".
