Annotation

The announced course is about nothing less than the fundamentality of language and speaking in the locating negotiation of the individual, his or her identity, his or her social stay, as well as his or her group relations within the historical society, in which he or she lives, speaks and is addressed.

After some basic discussions, I would like to take you on a short journey into the period between 1350 and 1650 in order to follow the traces of linguistic exclusion strategies, i.e. linguistic violence of exclusion. You will not only come across the same strategies and functions of speaking and discriminating over and over again, but you will also see that despite the historical distance, these strategies continue to have the same effect.

The following topics will be discussed: Strategies and functions of exclusion; strategies of language discrimination; verbal humiliation with speech acts, metaphors, presuppositions, pronominalisation; the verbal construction of race, the anti-Semitic discourse; othering.
