This course provides its students with the basic insight into the historical development of Great Britain and USA. The aim of the lectures is to make students familiar with the key events of British and American history. The seminars, which follow the lecture topics, aim to systematize the acquired knowledge and also to deepen it based on additional home reading and subsequent discussions.

WEEK 1+2: England between Romans and the ascent of Elisabeth I.
WEEK 3+4: Era of British colonialism – from Elisabeth I. until the end of 19th century
WEEK 7+8: USA – the establishment of the country (from the early settlement to the Constitution)
WEEK 9+10 USA – the building of the nation (USA in the long 19th century)
WEEK 11+12 USA – the global superpower (USA in the 20th century)
