Annotation
The aim of this subject is to acquaint students with the typical language features of serious media, namely the British daily press and the BBC, and, at the same time, with the selected social and cultural issues presented in them. The presupposed entry level is that of C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The texts and audio recordings will be analysed from the point of view of both language and content. Students will be acquainted with the main principles of preparing and delivering presentations and a minimum of one major presentation will be required to earn credit for the course.
Thematically, attention will be focused on demographic developments, the state of the family, multicultural society and ethnic groups in today?s UK.
