Annotation
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the typical language features of serious communication media, namely the British daily papers and the BBC, and, at the same time, with selected social and cultural issues presented in them. The presupposed entry level is that of C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The texts and audio recordings will be analysed from the point of view of both language and content, with a special emphasis on vocabulary build-up and improvement of students? discussion skills. Systematic attention will be paid to the rules of English punctuation. The main themes of study will be: social structure of the British society, class awareness, social care and health care issues.
