Methodology of Teaching Social Sciences at Upper-Secondary Schools I.

Class at Faculty of Education |
ON2312015

Annotation

The aim of the course is to acquaint the future Social Sciences teachers with the premises, conditions, possibilities and teaching methods of this complex subject taught at upper-secondary schools. Students learn about the teaching methods of philosophy, ethics and psychology that are used in the EU countries, about the national curriculum (RVP), about the preparation for the maturita exam and about the role of the educational counsellor (e.g. how to secure a preparation course for the future upper-secondary students).

The course leader stresses the role of philosophy which is considered to be the link among the disciplines and a field for the development of interdisciplinary relations. It leads the students to use the problem method, dialogical teaching, interactive teaching methods, and to link the theoretical-philosophical premises with the life experience of teenagers. The course also deals with additional teaching methods, such as project work, upper-secondary scientific work, human rights education, prevention of socio-pathological phenomena, active attitude to life, responsibility for one?s life and for one?s community.
