The aim of the course is to introduce the psychology of gender in more depth, and to make it specific to the process of gender socialization. The main focus will be on gender identity construction and the factors from the family, school and wider cultural environment that contribute to it.
An introduction to cognitive mechanisms in gender identity construction and their links to affective and social factors will be essential. In addition to the dominant form of gender socialization or gender identity construction, attention will also be given to atypical courses and their implications for psychological well-being and social status.
Gender non-/equality will be conceptually compared with other types of non-/equality based on other stratification features, e.g. ethnicity. The course will emphasize linking topics to the student's dissertation research so that through the course he/she can gain deeper insight into the actual issues under study from a gender psychology perspective.
