Annotation

French Canadian literature and literature of Caribbean sea of the 20th century. The aim of the course is to discuss generally the tendencies in the French literature of the 20th century (typological approach). The most important relevant terms will be introduced – basic literary functions of the literary works, individual genres, the status of the author and the reception by the readers; brief historical outline will be provided as well, showing that the literature of the 1st half of the 20th century is marked by a real modern revolution in the literary production.

In the practical part, individual literary text will be analysed from the point of view of the theoretical concepts mentioned above (e.g. Césaire, Depestre).

The emphasis will be put on the analysis of the essential thoughts, forms and topics of the modern literature (e.g. imaginaire, absurde, humour, autofiction). Reflections on the links between the texts and their translations.

The course is held in French (C1-C2 level).
