Art Education Discourse

Class at Faculty of Education |
OPNV3V035B

Annotation

The course leads students to create a meta-insight into their previous experience of their own reflected work and in-depth theoretical knowledge acquired during the bachelor's study. It helps them to orientate themselves in the field of art pedagogy, cultural theory, related socio-humanities, teaches them to professionally reflect on their own work against the background of contemporary visual arts, image theory and interdisciplinary approaches to humanities and natural sciences.

The focus is on the development of reflexive competence of art teachers, the development of professional functional vocabulary of the field, orientation in the field literature, personalized support of students in building their own interpretive frameworks for related content of didactic and art portfolio and author's creative archive. The course helps students to connect and relate the main domains of the hybrid discursive field of art education (eg current practices and theories of art and culture, philosophical contexts, image theory, visual semiotics, gender and trans-cultural approaches) connected to current trends in international art pedagogy (eg visual literacy, performative and collaborative projects).

The concept of discourse, understood as a socially and historically variable space of statements and social practices, refers to constructivist and mediation pedagogical approaches, which are based on the concept of discursive construction of knowledge and emphasize the importance of mediating cultural influences. The course is designed primarily for students who have completed a bachelor's degree at other universities and will get acquainted with the concept of art education developed at PedF UK.
