Syllabus
1. Basic terms in occupational therapy. Historical development and current status of occupational therapy. The role of the occupational therapist within a interdisciplinary team. Case study.
2. Activities of daily living (ADL) - examinations and training. Home visit.
3. Compensation aids - types, specifics of choice, possibility of their obtaining.
4. Practical use of occupational therapy - simulated disability at work in the kitchen. Use of aids.
5. Occupational Therapy for arm and hand function. Grips - types, examination and training possibilities, stimulating sensation. Demonstration of Tests- Purdue pegboard, Jamar dynamometer, Jebsen-Taylor. Sample aids for training fine and gross motor HKK and stimulating sensation.
6. Cognitive functions - examinations, training, the possibility of external aids, compensatory / adaptive approach.
7. Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics (Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer’s disease). Prevention of falls.
8. Occupational Therapy in Paediatrics. Gripping development, development of writing skills. Specification work with children. Use elements of the game in therapy.
9. Occupational therapy for inpatient. Basal stimulation. Stimulation of the senses.
10. Occupational therapy in Neurological diagnoses (stroke, TBI, MS)
11. Occupational therapy after Spinal cord injury.
12. Vocational assessment - examinations of working potential, used tests, Pre-vocational therapy. Use of PC in occupational therapy.
13. Occupational therapy in Mental health. Art and creative techniques in occupational therapy.
14. Presentation of projects.
Annotation
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the importance and the current position of occupational therapy as part of rehabilitation as a comprehensive system, including the interpretation of principles for the operation of occupational therapy. After completing the course, students will be provided with knowledge of occupational therapy procedures for selected diagnoses and will be familiar with similarities and / or differences in physiotherapeutic and ergotherapeutic approaches in given patients.
