Description of the Study Unit
The aims of the study unit are that the student:
The aim of this study unit is to introduce the student to the basic skills and practices they need to complete the degree programme successfully.
The study unit includes the understanding of:
- the concept of process based learning
- the management of personal learning and the use of time
- the use of team and group work in learning processes
- the use of available e-learning resources and other tools
- biographical writing as a source for reflection
- academic English, academic writing
- ethics of report writing
The study unit content includes:
- learning styles and process based learning
- time management
- team and group work
- e-learning tools
- academic writing and ethics of report writing
- structured narrative approach to biographical writing
Process of the Study Unit
Week 1 (1,5 cr)

Orientation assignment before the first contact week and the contact teaching during the first contact week
The content of the first contact week:
- Introduction to the studies
- Learning to Learn
- The interdiac information system, e-learning platform (Fronter) and
- The acquisition of knowledge including the use of internet based tools & resources.
- Analysis of the orientation assignment part one.
- The management of personal learning and the use of time
- Biographical writing as a source for reflection.
- Academic English and academic writing
- Ethics of report writing
- The use of team and group work in learning processes
- Team Building: The student is sensitive to the diversities in background of other students, service users and colleagues in a work setting
Week 2-4 (Total 3,0 cr)
Mag. Tony Addy (Responsible teacher) & Ing. Soňa Kantorová
Re-writing the orientation assignment 0, 5 cr.
Assignment “Acquisition of knowledge” on Fronter see https://fronter.com/diak/main.phtml 1, 5 cr.
An essay “Myself as a learner” 1 cr.

There will be an English clinic during the contact weeks 5, 9 and 14 0,5 c
