Course description:
This overview course offers an introduction to the ascetico-mystical spiritual theology with emphasis paid to perspectives from the Orthodox Church. Through lecutres, required readings, video presentations, icons, class discussion and student class presentations, a foundational perspective will be offered regarding major characteristics identifying spiritual life from the Eastern Christian tradition both past and present. It will cover especially the topics related to spiritual anthropology, where people are understood as microcosm and also made according to image and likeness of God.
Evaluation Requirements:
(1) Participation: As part of participating in the regular activity of the class, including the reading of the required texts.
(2) One presentation: A short presentation about one of the figures of Orthodox Theology will be required.
(3) Written exam in the form of one book review presentation based on the reading of one course reference textbooks or another selection approved by me.
