Seminar in Philosophy (English) - Readings in Athanasius of Alexandria

Anotace

This course is intended as a reading seminar. We will read through Athanasius’ main anti-Arian work Orations against the Arians, discuss the philosophical and theological backgrounds, reconstruct Arius’ thought by using the extant texts and fragments, and examine the way both Athanasius’ and Arius’ understanding of God affects the way they describe salvation.

Students will need to pick up one section of Athanasius’ Orations, present it in class and write a short paper.
