Religious Studies - History: History of Christianity as a World Religion
This course will explore the historical development of Christianity beyond a Eurocentric and denominationally-focused perspective. In other words, it will introduce Christianity as a world religion. Methodologically, it will proceed both diachronically and synchronically, following multiple trajectories and examining various aspects. Furthermore, various approaches to studying “World Christianity” will be considered.
The course is designed as a seminar centered around close reading of selected texts.
The aim of the course is to understand how Christianity has become a multidimensional, polyform and polycentric phenomenon, truly a world religion.
