Social policy and social work contribute to societal integration and disintegration processes in modern welfare states. The course aims to introduce major social issues and concerns in the Czech Republic closely associated with social work. During the course, we will focus on the interdependence of the two fields: a) how the reforms in generalised social policy schemes affect social work top-down and b) on the bottom-up influence of social work
(ers) on the making of social policy as well as the role of social workers as implementers. The course will explore theories and concepts related to social exclusion and integration, legal concerns, and examples of practical applications to be analysed and discussed by the course participants. The specific topics, policies, target groups, and populations covered in the course depend on the quest lecturers' selection, the same as the UpToDate societal challenges and needs.
