Annotation
The class introduces -- in conjunction with the study of spoken Chinese -- a basic set of characters understood not only individually but also as part of a system that reflects the peculiarities of Chinese language. The class confronts the student with both modern and ancient aspects of Chinese culture: interactively, through film and the reading of the dramatic "Records of the Historian," the first comprehensive history of China.
The class develops mindfulness, visual memory, and critical thinking.
