Wittgenstein’s first publication, the Tractatus-Logico-Philosophicus, which he wrote at the age of 29, is considered one of the founding texts of analytic philosophy. In this class, we will read the Tractatus in detail while taking into account Wittgenstein’s Notebooks, Notes on Logic, as well as the notes dictated to G. E. Moore.
A central theme of our discussion will be the attempt to embed the Tractatus within the broader context of the history of philosophy, especially the transition from British idealism to early analytic philosophy.
