Anotace
The course is conceived as a block of theoretical lectures along with relevant practical exercises. We will begin by examining the practical methodologies which are utilized in qualitative research, followed by an overview of the major theoretical approaches and finally the ethical considerations of doing such research.
The practical part of the course consists of analysis and discussion of specific studies as examples of the use of different methods. Students should identify specific methodological and practical research issues based on their own work with particular studies.
The course aims to equip students with knowledge of qualitative research methods for the given research terrain. The examinations for the course will consist of two parts: a project (selected from the list provided) and an oral examination of the project and other elements of the course.
Each student will be required to attend and contribute to all lessons unless substantial justification is given for their non-attendance / non-contribution. If a student does not attend a lesson or fails to contribute, then they should submit a 1500-2000 word summary of the lesson's key reading and / or the topic of that class.
