Deaf Studies

Study programme at Faculty of Arts |
NMgr.

Profiles

Graduates have acquired general linguistic knowledge (with special focus on Czech studies) and the linguistic knowledge of sign languages, along with an understanding of the linguistic and cultural approach to deafness and of other related issues, including pedagogy and translation. Next, graduates have advanced skills in Czech language and Czech Sign Language (CzSL) which make them ready to bridge the boundary between the hearing majority and the linguistic and cultural deaf minority.

They can pursue careers as instructors of written Czech for the deaf or CzSL teachers, inter-cultural mediators or communication facilitators between the hearing and the deaf communities, or as researchers specializing in CzSL and Deaf Studies with a special focus on the Czech deaf community. They can also continue their studies of other related subjects.
