The chapter is a part of international publication aimed to development and issues of teacher education in 90 countries in the world. In the 1th part is presented tradition and history since 18th century, effort to university teacher education in the Czech environment, the development untill 1989.
In the 2nd part current system and study programmes are dealt, pedagogic and psychologic component and in-service teacher education is analyzed. 3rd part focuses critically on the proces of development of teacher professional standard and referes to research of teacher profession.
