Abstract

The effect of small additions of Sc and Zr on microstructure and mechanical properties during the isochronal annealing of the mould-cast and cold-rolled aluminium was studied. Electrical resistometry together with the hardness (HV10) measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterise the effect.

Relative resistivity changes (above 240 °C) of both alloys exhibit similar dependence on annealing temperature. Precipitation of particles (L12 structure) at 390 °C and 450 °C was observed by TEM.

The results agree with the decomposition sequence of oversaturated solid solution of ternary Al-Sc-Zr system known from the literature.
