2010

Abstract

The paper connects three historic phenomena: The situation in the society in the Wenceslas´times, the social and power influence of the Christianity to the transformation of the Czech society and the personal holiness of the Duke. He asks in which measure the legendary narration about Wenceslas ´effort to bring to the society of the first third of the 10th century Christian values corresponds to the reality, in which social context it could have happened and what possibilities actually Wenceslas had.

Various concepts that could have inspired a whole- hearted Christian ruler in transforming the society are presented and states that the Christianity, in contrast with other religions, leaves a relatively free space to structure the society, confining self to the basic principles of the human relations.
