Abstract
The article summarises the knowledge in various fields of natural sciences and in archaeology that resulted from an expedition of the authors to the Western Desert of Egypt in spring 2010 and from several previous expeditions to the same area. The main theme of all the expeditions was the constant enquiring into what the present desert landscape looked like in various periods of prehistory and ancient history.
