Theoretical work of Béla Balázs reflects on the film in its very beginnings: it presents an "open" definition of the film, i.e. the concept asm the preliminary map of something, which is still becoming. Balázs uses the term "Sichtbarmachen", which could be understood as a gesture indicating unseen regions of things.
In this sense we could conceive of "photographicality" as a manner of the openess to the world able to grasp the vestiges of the unseen and in such a way to bring the unvisible into the realm of visibility
