Abstract
The author pays attention to the definition of the term "Life and Institutions" and follows their relations to the other terms included in the European documents of language policy. The second part of the thesis deals with the research of only one aspect of sociocultural competence, namely the knowledge of Czech cultural and historical phraseology.
It must be pointed out that phraseology represents one of the most important aspects of internal life and institution which are reflected in sociocultural competence of foreign students of Czech studies.
