The text is dedicated to problems of word meaning knowledge of the second grade of primary schools pupils and lower grades of "multiannual" grammar school students. At present, when teaching is oriented predominantly communicatively, communicative abilities of pupils are developed, it seems that knowledge of words, which are considered common of with which pupils had not had problems until recently, is declining.
On the example of word "careerist" we can see that teachers should pay more attention to teaching semantics and ability to formulate ideas in a proper way, in this particular case - description of the meaning.
