Rudolf Virchow and Darwin's Theory of Culture

Abstract

Aim of the paper is analysis of Virchow’s work in the context of struggle for Darwin’s theory of evolution. Virchow was a famous German physician, researcher and politician.

He is frequent interpreted as anti-Darwinist, who refused to recognize Neanderthal fossils as remains of Paleolithic human being. In the paper are discussed Virchow's scientific opinions and criticism of Haeckel, who was ingrained German Darwinist and advocate of Darwin’s theory.

In the paper is shown that Virchow attitudes towards Darwin’s theory are inconsistent.
