The article deals with the reasons, the battle itself and the aftermath of the battle of Pavia. This fight was a part of the series of conflicts called the Italian Wars which took place in the Italian peninsula at the end of 15th and in the first half of the 16th century.
There were involved among others France and the Holy Roman Empire in these wars. The battle of Pavia fought in 1525 was a decisive victory of the Emperor Charles V whose opponent the French king Francis I was captured by the Spanish troops and imprisoned in Spain.
