Basque. A Linguistic Interpretation

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2010

Abstract

A first major study of Basque published in the Czech Republic and designed for linguists aims to map specific features of modern standard Basque (euskara batua) as well as present the results of modern Basque and Spanish baskology. The historical part, accompanied with text illustrations, contains chapters on sociolinguistic characteristics of Basque in diachronic perspective, origins and historical development of Basque, dialects of Basque, and typological profile of Basque.

The synchronic part of the book offers an outline of Basque phonetics and phonology and a selective characterology of Basque morphology, syntax and wordstock (as contrasted to Indoeuropean languages).
