How differently contact sports games players and other athletes perceive the models of fair play situation
Abstract
The aim of this study was to verify the hypothesis: if the respondents aged 16-23 years who participate in contact sports games, assessed the models of FP situation more conciliatory than other individuals of the same age and gender sporting in other types of sport. The “Olympic Questionnaire”, (Crombach´s α = 0.7 – 0.8) was used for assessment of ten models of FP situations, like: “in sports, it is acceptable that one tries to bend the rules”.
Surveyed persons were sporting youth, aged 16-19 years (n = 956), students of the Faculty of Physical Education and sport (n = 177) and former Czech Olympians (n = 212). The hypothesis about different perceptions of fair and unfair situations of players in contact sports games and in athletes in other sports was confirmed.
The players are against the unfair behavior (including violence), more tolerant than other athletes and Olympians.
